matthew@matthewdingels.com Teaching Philosophy Singing and the study of music have brought me an enormous amount of fulfillment in my life, and I hope I can share that with you. The study of voice combines several disciplines, including literature, poetry, language, history, music theory, and mental and physical awareness. While a voice lesson focuses primarily on development of a healthy technique for singing, the musical repertoire we study will probably touch each of the above in some way. Whether the genre is art song, jazz, or pop, the music was composed within a historical and cultural framework. My goal is not just performance with a healthy technique of production, but an understanding of this framework within the context of healthy performance. Studio Policy Lessons are usually given once a week or bi-weekly, and can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. My time is precious to me because I am very busy, so I ask that my students respect it by taking responsibility for knowing when their lessons are, being on time, and being prepared. Cancellations must be given 24 hours in advance or more (48 hours if via email) to receive a full refund. If a student must cancel with less than 24 hours notice, and I can effectively schedule over the lesson and use the time, one half of the refund will be given. If I end up with a "hole" in my schedule that I cannot fill because of less than 24 hours notice, I ask that the student pay the full cost for the lesson, extreme circumstances permitting. Rates Rates are subject to availability and studio situation. Some individual situations warrant a change in rates as well. Generally, this is what I charge for a lesson: $26 per 30 minute lesson $36 per 45 minute lesson $45 per hour lesson I like to schedule by the month, and request payment at the beginning of the month. However, arrangements to pay on a lesson-to-lesson basis may be made as well. |
